Technical questions, answered with precision
The fit, fabric, and performance details our racers ask about most.
How should a RankGear race suit fit?
It should feel like a second skin. Our suits are cut for a race-tight, aerodynamic fit that eliminates wind-catching folds. If you're between sizes and prioritize comfort over marginal gains, size up; for full aero benefit, choose your true race fit. Every size chart is measured on-body, not flat, so the numbers reflect how the fabric actually sits under tension.
What fabric technology do you use, and how does it improve aerodynamics?
Our primary shell uses a calibrated dimpled weave validated in the wind tunnel to manage airflow at the leading edges, where drag concentrates. Panels are zoned by body position: smoother compression fabric across the torso, textured surfaces on the arms and shoulders. The result is measured drag reduction of up to 12 watts at 45km/h versus a standard jersey and bib.
How do I care for the suit to protect its performance?
Wash cold on a gentle cycle inside out, using a mild detergent with no fabric softener or bleach—softeners coat the fibers and degrade both compression and moisture transfer. Hang to dry away from direct heat. Never tumble dry or iron the aero panels. Followed properly, this routine preserves the fabric's engineered surface and elasticity across hundreds of rides.
Are the suits suitable for all-day and warm-weather racing?
Yes. The fabric is rated UPF 50 for sun protection and built around a high-transfer moisture system that pulls sweat to the surface for rapid evaporation. Zoned ventilation panels keep core temperature in check during sustained efforts, so the suit performs from an early crit to a full day in the mountains.
How durable is the chamois, and when should it be replaced?
Our multi-density chamois is engineered for high-intensity, long-duration racing and typically holds its structure for 300 to 500 hours of riding, depending on intensity and care. Replace the suit when you notice the padding losing rebound or thinning at the sit bones—consistent support is a performance factor, not a comfort luxury.
Do your suits meet competitive racing regulations?
Our race suits are designed to comply with UCI apparel regulations, including fabric thickness and fit requirements for sanctioned events. If you're racing under a specific federation's rules, reach out with your event category and we'll confirm the exact compliance details for your kit.
